Disruption was predicted but far exceeded expectations with the 2019 Spring/Summer Collection by new designer, Heidi Slimane. It was an overhaul of the minimalistic, innovative brand that was established by Phoebe Philo; now, it is Celine, sans accent ague, a rocker-chic, sparkly, mini skirts and skinny suit fashion house led by Slimane. Similar to his designs at Saint Laurent, this collection featured mostly all-black looks created in light-catching sequins and 80s silouhettes- huge shoulders, legs on show and black leather ankle boots. Menswear was also included in the runway show, but was announced as unisex pieces that women can also enjoy. The dark, mirrored atmosphere was lightened up by a rasberry red sequinned minidress, which was later worn by Dakota Johnson on the red carpet. Slimane also debuted 3 new bags: 16, C Bag and Triomphe.
Staying true to its concept of "less but excellent", CELINE crafts timefeless pieces that are modern, clean-cut and elegant, from quality materials that last a lifetime. Collection after collection, the French fashion house plays on beautiful contrasts: feminine yet masculine, dramatic shoulders with small waists, crisp trousers and flowy hems. While at a glance, CELINE items may seem minimalistics and basic, with more careful attention, one can see that each piece has an element of innovative surprise. This attention to detail is something the brand prouds itself and it is what its fans, who are stylish working women, yearn for. Comfortable and wearable are also the key to CELINE designs; while being luxurious and high-fashion, every item on the runway can be imagined worn by everyday women.
