Brand Profile

Established by the revolutionary legend Gabrielle Coco Chanel, the luxury fashion house has been a long-standing icon in the ever-evolving industry. The luxurious brand is known for its simplistic elegant pieces that stand the test of time. Coco's signature pieces such as tweed suit skirts and quilted handbags still remain as the centerpieces of the brand. However, another significant figure, Karl Lagerfeld, has worked his magic onto the brand by adding personality to CHANEL. His touch of edginess, humor, fantasy, sexines and sophistication is obvious at each collection; every year, Lagerfeld pushes the industry with his fusion of fantasy with timeless fashion pieces.

Season

What makes Chanel such an iconic brand? It's simple: pure elegance. Once again, Virginie Viard established herself as a dominant force after taking over the house following Karl Lagerfeld's death last year. The Spring/Summer 2020 collection kept all of the classic elements that people love about Chanel, but updated many of them in a modern way to attract a younger demographic.
Millennials will likely be drawn to the pieces that take a new spin on the timeless design components. For instance, contemporary uses of the double C logo, color blocking, and new takes on tweed. Some of the hottest pieces coming down the runway included jackets complete with flounced collars and cuffs, and bell-shaped skirts. Model Kia Gerber—at the height of her supermodel status—donned a chic black and white number that will appeal to her thousands of followers.

Many of the outfits were finished with classic Chanel accessories, including footwear. The brand's core vision is femininity and sophistication, so it makes perfect sense that it doesn't stray from that when it comes to the finishing touches. Flat-heeled, cap-toe block kitten heels were the ideal choice for a supremely lady-like look.
Of course the quintessential quilted handbag made an appearance (how could it not?), complete with the signature chain strap and interlocking C logo. In addition, many looks were accompanied by the larger Chanel 19 bag, another classic design that stays true to the brand's aesthetic.
The goal was clear: target a younger crowd. And Viard did just that. While using essential components, she reimagined what today's Chanel girl looks like. Tweed playsuits and rompers? Check! Mixed in with modern pieces were classic garconne coatdresses and twinsets. Color played an important role for this assortment, as well. Viard never strays too far from the eternal black and white scheme, but this time also included soft pinks, navy, and red. Details like ruffles, plaids, checks, and more are what make these pieces so special.
This collection breathed fresh life into the brand, as Viard continues to find her way at the helm. The breezy feel was not just in reference to the clothing, however. Set in a Parisian rooftop setting at the Grand Palais, Viard channeled Nouvelle Vague—a throwback to old cinema, youthfulness, and authenticity. The atmosphere was a stunning replication, as breeze blew to really set the stage of the Paris skyline.
As Chanel's ambassador, Caroline de Maigret is the perfect representation of the brand. The French international model worked closely with Lagerfeld for years, and now continues to support the brand alongside Viard. From the models hitting the runway, to the guests in attendance, to the venue, the Chanel Spring/Summer 2020 show couldn't have been more chic.
In all, Viard's vision for this collection was a high point for the brand, following a tough year of losing its leader. The range of styles encompassed romanticism and well as modernity. While the brand is known for its ultra-feminine styles, Viard was able to blend masculine elements, creating an ideal balance for any woman.

Attendees of Chanel's 2020 Cruise collection witnessed some of the brand's finest couture. This season's vision included staples and frills, all with the central focus on travel. Pieces represented feminism in the most beautiful way, with a new perspective on what it means to be a stylish woman. Not only was each garment tailored to perfection, but they exuded a quiet confidence and level of comfort that is perfect for a cruise collection.
Among the standout pieces included boxy tweed blazers (a timeless Chanel must-have), bright colored jackets and colorful striped sweaters. The essence said refinement with a cool ease that a travel collection requires. Style has certainly changed over the centuries, but one thing remains: chic travel style. With the increase in casual fashion, Chanel was able to balance its inherent nature for flair and formality with the modern woman's desire for simplicity and functionality.

While jackets and outerwear stood out at focal points, it would be remiss not to mention the layering pieces, including crisp poplin shirts and blouses with intricate detailing. A common theme throughout the collection was romantic touches like bows and 3D floral appliques.
Rounding out the collection were the fabulous accessories accompanying each look. From mini hoop handle bags to double harness bags to leather pouches and even backpacks, the models were amazingly outfitted with statement bags for wherever their journey was headed. Quilted styles remain supreme, as do the signature double "C" logo and chain strap—because nothing screams Chanel more than these distinct features.
We don't know exactly where she was going, but what we do know is that the Chanel woman is going there in style. A staple in the resort/cruise collection history, Chanel didn't fail to impress yet again at its Cruise 2020 runway show. The theme—travel—was quite evident, in both the setting and the impeccable garments that floated down the runway. The venue—the Grand Palais in Paris—set a luxurious scene for the brand's resort collection.
At the helm of the house is a new name: Virginie Viard. After the death of fashion designer legend Karl Lagerfeld this past spring, it was an obvious choice as to whom would take over as lead designer. Viard, Lagerfeld's right-hand woman for nearly 30 years, made the seamless transition into the artistic director role, carrying on Lagerfeld's vision and staying true to the brand's core identity.
This year's show had many of the same styles and design inspirations for which Chanel has become known for. Most notably, tweed and a bit of preppy flair. However, this collection stood out as Viard's first, as she added her own personal spin on the classic essentials.
Guests filled the train style station, transporting all in attendance to a 19th century getaway. With a nod to an atmosphere of years gone by, the ambiance radiated sophistication and elegance, yet with the modern influence of today.
In all, the Beaux-Arts theme was a hit. Women of today can appreciate the history of Chanel in a thoroughly contemporary way. Viard proved she can master her position at the head of this legacy brand.

In a winter wonderland at the Grand Palais surrounded by snow covered trees and ski chalets, the final Chanel show designed by Karl Lagerfeld was the perfect setting to honor the legendary designer. Cara Delevingne opened the show in black and white tweed pant suit, matching fedora hat and houndstooth coat. The 90s outfit was followed by more flowy wide-leg trousers, checkered jackets and layers of statement necklaces. It was an effortless balance of masculine and feminine shapes; the boxy, strong-shoulder silhouettes were softened by cinching of the waists with Chanel belts and sparkly pearl jewelry. The collection was less of an experient with color as it was with texture; furry boots, fuzzy CC logos on belt backs and fluffy white skirts added warmth and depth to the winter outfits.

Karl Lagerfeld took CHANEL on a vacation to the relaxing beachside at Grand Palais in Paris. Or, more accurately, a stunning man-made location consisting of a boardwalk, white sands and splashing waves. Models walked barefoot along the blue waters with colorful flat sandals in hand. This season, bold accessories stole the show. Oversized crystal necklaces spelling 'CHANEL' and CC marks on the plexi footwear and quilted shoulder bags. The French fashion house even introduced a new twist to the logo trend: split-up 'CHA' and 'NEL', which came in forms of mega-sized earrings, straw hats and cropped white shirts. Clothes were kept to light pastels and airy blacks, in laid-back, oversized silouhettes and flowy dresses. Even leggings made appearances. The classic tweed was transformed into deep-V blazers, boxy suits, relaxed shirt dresses and summery set-ups. Other stand-out pieces include geographic patterened swimsuits, lightweight cover-ups and bags in shape of beach volleyballs.

She"d picked it up from Bpy Capel, the great love of her lfe... indeed, the bag's called BOY CHANEL".

General Brand Description

In 1910, French designer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened her first shop at 21 rue Cambon in Paris selling hats originally under the name, "Chanel Modes". Following this, Chanel carried on introducing her enthusiastic character to the world through evolutionary, signature pieces such as the iconic CHANEL "N°5" perfume, classy menswear-inspired tweed suits for women, and costume pearls. Fast-forward to current day with Karl Lagerfeld at the helm as Creative Director, and we can see how the House still bravely pushes the boundaries of “standard,” reinterpreting classic Chanel fundamentals with pieces of today’s contemporary trends.
